This workshop is to explore ways to copy your favourite clothes and I’ll be demonstrating the various approaches to achieving this. Bring along Items you want to copy, we will discuss the options, and then make a pattern from the one which makes best use of my expertise during the workshop. You may have an old favourite dress, skirt, or top that you want to recreate. It may be worn out, it may not fit anymore, I can help you make the pattern to sew something new that will fit. Or you may have a favourite item that does fit you really well, and you want to make another version of it, I’ll show you how to take a pattern from this without taking it apart. Or you may have seen a picture in a magazine or on a film that you want to recreate or maybe you want to make something you once wore a long time ago.
Whatever the reasons, there are a few different ways, We could
1. Unpick the seams - take the garment apart and trace around the shapes
2. Look at the lines on the design, I will help you find an appropriate pattern that will work, maybe changing some design lines.
3. If a garment fits well, you may want to have another version of it, we can make the shapes of the pattern pieces using a pinprick method.
All the methods will include ways to recreate the shapes of sections, finding and positioning grainlines, applying appropriate markings to the pattern i.e. notches and dots where you will position tailor tacks. This day is just for making a pattern and not for sewing up a garment]. I would also recommend making a toile from your first pattern, test it out and see if it needs any tweaks and then make your garment up in your chosen fabric. You also have the option to join in with my flexible group sessions if you need any help with the garment construction.
